A "design of tomorrow" for space mindedyoungsters is how Murray-Ohio announced their all new "SuperSonic Jet" in 1954. A unique pedal vehicle to say theleast. I am sure it captured the imagination of every kid who saw it on thestreet!

When you finally persuaded your parents to take you to the local dealer tolook at the vehicle  you know you had to have this Jet.Then the dealer showed you and your parents the new 1954 catalog and you weresoaring with excitement.

In the first catalog illustration the Jetappears to be taking off with air brushed smoke shooting from the chrome plated exhaustpipes. WOW! You had to be ready for pilot school at this point!!

On this model along with  the exhaust pipes the nose cone and the engineintakes were also chrome plated, they were all separate pieces fastened to the body. The 1954 model was the only year that this deluxe Jet was offered.

In the second illustration (page 23) the Jetappears to be in  flight, leveled off and cruising.

In 1955 Murray introduced a pedal drive model called the "SKYRocket ". This appears to bea less expensive model. The tail fin graphics have been changed as has the body color. Even the wheel size has changed.

The Super Sonic Jet now hasno chrome plated exhaust or intake ports. The tail fin graphics are different and a gear shift with realisticmotor-tone sound has been added.

Next time we will look at the 1956 through 1964, 1964 being the last rearfor this body style.
