FIELD SERVICES: BIOLOGICAL AND WATER QUALITY STUDIES
Increased attention is being given to assessing the in-stream effects of chemicals. With the release of revised procedures to assess in-stream biological conditions (e.g., USEPA 841-B-99-002), state regulatory personnel are adding in-stream monitoring requirements to NPDES discharge permits and as part of environmental assessments under CERCLA and RCRA. Assessing in-stream biological conditions is often an integral part of determining whether impacts due to site contaminants have occurred. Additionally, in-stream biological, water quality, and habitat assessments are often utilized as part of the NPDES permit negotiation process, or as part of the Tennessee Aquatic Resource Alternation Permitting (ARAP) process. ADVENT has conducted numerous river, lake, and stream surveys to assess the physical, chemical, and biological conditions at a site. These surveys have been conducted in conjunction with constructing diffusers, applying for alternative discharge limits, and determining in-stream effects of wastewater discharges.
