| What is UNREALINATOR? Well, the webmaster here at Willow Pond (heh - me) decided that he wanted to make custom levels for Epic MegaGame's UnrealTM but he didn't like the interface and limitations imposed by yet another proprietary 3D game editor (UnrealED). So, he figured that he'd create a converter allowing him to work in 3D environments that offer more robust editing features like those found in 3D Studio Max. After some hacking, he came up with a nice compromise he dubbed the UNREALINATOR. Catchy, huh? ;-) Berlin accommodationUNREALINATOR allows an artist the freedom to work in any program that exports to the VRML 2.0 standard. For example, an entire map's geometry can be built within 3D Studio and then easily exported to a format that UnrealED can understand. Texturing, lighting, and scripting can them be done/tweaked in UnrealED - although some of that stuff may make it into this program in the near future (depends on the feedback I get). You can view the online version of the text file that comes with UNREALINATOR, check the current program status, or just download the program now (334K). I set this version will stop working on 7/30/98 at which time you should download a newer version. I only did this to make sure the initial versions didn't propogate widely before I had a chance to catch any major bugs. Other download sites (in case the above one is busy): PLEASE note that I'm currently not allowing redistribution of the UNREALINATOR file(s) until I think it's feature set is slightly more robust. If, however, you'd like to help out by running a mirror of the file on your own server, drop me a line. ~jihad |
